Da Vinci Not Getting Good Reviews
I check out a couple of movie news websites and the buzz so far on The Da Vinci Code is not too positive so far. They're calling it too long, too talky, not suspenseful enough, etc. Will still probably check it out though, even if 2 hours 45 minutes does sound way too long for this kind of film.

Yeah, on the drive in, I heard radio host Glenn Beck (who now has a TV show on CNN Headline news. Funny, funny stuff) mention that the critics were laughing and heckling at the film in none other than Cannes. Heh, indeed! From a bastion of revisionist appreciation (and, I mean this as no insult, as I get and appreciate what Derrida and Sartre hath given the world of literary studies and theory), we get guffaws instead.
Beck brought up a good point, though -- potential spoiler ahead, heh, even for The Man who has not read Da Vinci . . . if Jesus DID get married . . . this sacred act that brings us that much more close to God, does ANY of that negate what Jesus did, which was to atone for man's sins and to teach us how to live.
In any case, what? The movie'll still be this weekend's top grosser, sure, no problem.
I mean, does the movie NEED to be Titanic or Lord of the Rings box office huge? I mean, the book took care of itself in terms of profit, uh, dontcha' think? Thing I keep thinking about the immense success of The Da Vinci . . . book is that publishers and authors are gonna' wanna duplicate the success, that's a given. Money and fame, et al. And, if part of the success is (and I'm really holding back, really giving a conservative description here) refashioning sacred cows, methinks if there's an audience in pop culture that you can't fool easily, it's the reading, albeit bestselliers-reading, portion out there. And, they're gonna' get tired of the religion-bashing. And, they might very well be looking to see some other sacred cows are refashioned. No? And, that's all I'll say about that. The Catholics didn't riot over the streets over this book, no matter how misrepresented it is about their religion. Let's all see if the patrons of "other sacred cows" can do the same.
