That.....Was Almost a Disaster....

Okay, just got back from the KHNL interview. Man, what a morning!

I was supposed to be at the studio at 6am for a 6:15am on air interview. So I set my alarm for 4:30am. Plenty of time to wake up, take a shower, and make myself pretty for the cameras. My alarm wakes me up at 4:30 and of course I turn it off and go back to bed. The next time I open my eyes, my iHome tells me it's 5:52am!!! What the hell!!!!

So I jumped out of bed, brushed half my teeth, washed half my face, didn't bother to do anything with my hair or stubble and ran out of the house to my car, racing down to the studio. To make things worse...I got a message on my cell saying that Rex, the HKCC President, who was supposed to handle most of the interview, also got up late (at around 6am) and didn't know if he was going to make it. Uh...can you say pressure?

I arrived at the studio at 6:12am and was relieved to find out that we wouldn't go on air till about 6:30 - 6:40. They gave me the list of questions that Marvin Buenconsejo was going to ask and I started to prepare answers to questions that Rex was supposed to handle. Marvin came by and we talked story for a while about high schools, what year you grad, etc. Typical local guy talk. But inside, as each minute ticked by, I was dreading the interview already. I wasn't ready for this and I looked like crap on top of it all!

Luckily, Rex showed up at 6:25am and I let out a big sigh of relief. I was only there to talk about the singers, not to talk about the Chamber in general and what our purpose was. So then we enter the studio and see Marvin and Angela Keen doing their thing and they mike us up. Okay...show time!

The interview went okay. Rex is a pro at this stuff already so he was smooth. Me...to be honest, I don't know what the hell I was saying. I was just blurting out whatever came to mind. And I was not prepared at all for Marvin's second question to me ("What do you look forward to at the Festival?") so I just stumbled all over that one. After the interview was done, I just knew I had to go home and check out the DVR to see how badly I screwed up.

So I just watched the playback. Damn, I thought cameras are only supposed to add 10 pounds....not 50! LOL And I just realized...I have a very large head...I mean, I knew that already, but to see it on a big TV screen is a frightening reality check! And what's with that smug smirk I got going on there? Creepy....and of course, my hair is a big mess. Oh well...as far as my speaking...typical me. Rushing over words and stuttering. It wasn't because I was nervous. That's just how I normally talk! LOL But it didn't come out as bad as I thought.....I hope!

Overall, it was a good experience and a fun time. I only regret forgetting my dica in the rush to leave the house. I really wish I had taken some photos of their studios and stuff. Was pretty cool being in there.

Rex asked me if I wanted to join him for tomorrow's KITV morning show interview too but I passed. Once is enough! ^__^

EDIT: Here's the video of today's interview, courtesy of braddah mace. Thanks, mace!

You did good, don't worry about it. I would have been a little nervous myself as well. No dead air, no fainting, no Freudian Slips, I'd say it was a success! ;-)

I have a digitized clip, with your permission I can put it up...
