Cal Blows It Again

I watched the Cal-Oregon State game at Evil Bunny's house with Orbs this past Saturday and even though it was a very entertaining game, we ended up with another big disappointment.

During the 1st half of the game, the LSU-Kentucky game was ongoing concurrently so we flipped back and forth to see if Kentucky could pull the upset over #1 LSU. Sure enough, LSU lost, meaning that if Cal could pull of the win, we'd be the new #1 team in the country!

Unfortunately for Cal, starting QB Nate Longshore was out with an ankle injury so we were left with freshman QB Kevin Riley to lead the way. Making his first start, Riley actually played pretty well, finishing 20-34 for 294 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. But it was his mistake in the 4th quarter that we'll all remember.

Down 31-28, Cal got the ball on their own 6 yard line with just 1:19 left in the game. Almost impossible odds. But the freshman QB was able to lead the offense down the field all the way to the OSU 12 yard line, even converting on a 4th and 17 play. Now, all they had to do was kick an easy 29 yard field goal to force overtime. But on the last play of the game, Riley inexplicably had a brain fart and rushed toward the middle of the field after not being able to find any open receivers. That would've been fine except Cal had no timeouts left! So after he was tackled at the 9 yard line, the Cal FG team had no time to get on the field to even attempt the tying FG. What the hell!!!!

Ugh. I was so disgusted. I thought for sure we'd go to OT and then pull off a victory, much like the UH Warriors were able to do on Friday. But nope. Another Cal choke. Can you believe we coulda been the #1 team in the country? That just doesn't sound right...even for a fan like me!

Anyways, we have a bunch of tough games left like ranked teams Arizona State and USC so we have our work cut out for us if we want to stay in the Rose Bowl picture, let alone the BCS title race.

What!?! UCLA is not a tough game next week?

It'll be like a bye week for Cal. As long as they score one point, Cal should win.

Can you believe UCLA is favored by 3 over Cal?

No way, there is no line.

UCLA had to bring a freshman QB off of the scout team and moved a WR to QB. How sad is that?

Cal can play their 4th string QB and be alright. UCLA won't score unless Pat Cowan is healed from his MCL.
