Waiting in Line for Chicken Soup
Yesterday was the first day of 초복 (chobok), the start of the intense summer heat. People in Seoul lined up in droves to eat 삼계탕 (Korean chicken ginseng soup) as it is believed to help fight the heat and cool you off. I don't know how eating a hot chicken soup makes you feel cooler but looking at these lines, there's gotta be some truth to it!

Why are they waiting in line in the heat to drink soup to cool them off? Paboya! (That's the word for dumb right? =) ) Gotta practice my Korean....
You're asking Koreans to be logical! Come on now!
And yeah, you're Korean is spot on. I guess that means you're going to Korea with me this year!
Maybe the Soup Nazi opened up a new restaurant in Seoul. "No soup for you!"
That reminds me of a Korean joke. "Jjigae" means soup or stew in Korean.
Will Smith and a friend went to a restaurant in Seoul. While his friend went to the bathroom, Will Smith ordered for the two of them and the waitress brought out the side dishes including the kim chee.
When the friend came back from the bathroom he asked Will Smith, "What did you order with the kim chee?".
Will Smith said, "I'm getting jjigae with it".
Thank you! I'll be here all week! You're a great crowd!
LOL on the joke Myong. That is pretty good.
Heh.
Yeah, first heard about the "cooling off" effects of soup in . . . think it was high school physics.
HOWEVER . . . I'd take an Icee any day if I were so hot (hey, waitaminute, I'm ALWAYS hot. Heh. I'll be here all week, too). Hmmm . . . IS there Icee in S. Korea? Hmmm . . . seems like such a venture might prove itself a cash cow, after reading this article.
That pic' of the soup DOES look good!
As they say in Korea...E Yul Chi Yul (fight heat with heat...and of course vice a versa).
Gotta say, though, the chicken soup sounds really good...hot in Seattle (95, which to us might as well be 115 the way we complain)
