What a great day for Hawaii golf. First, Dean Wilson wins his first PGA tournament and now Hilo girl Kimberly Kim wins the USGA Women's Amateur.In the 36 hole match play final, Kim was down as much as 5 holes to German Katharina Schallengerg but finished the 1st 18 by winning the last 3 holes to close to just 2 down and then continued her strong play in the afternoon 18 to take a 2 up lead at one point and then finally winning 1 Up. Give Schallenberg credit though. She made some clutch putts on the last 2 holes to make Kim really earn it.
At 14 years and 11 months, Kim is the youngest winner of this event, an event Michelle Wie has never won. Looking forward to a terrific future for this young golfer. Congratulations Kimberly!
