Oh Ji Ho Fan Meeting
At the request of the people running the event, I attended the Oh Ji Ho fan meeting last week Wednesday at the Japanese Cultural Center.
It started at 5:30pm and there was a silent auction as well as a sale of some stuff with his autograph. About 160 people were in attendance, which surprised the hell out of me.
The program...let me see if I can remember. First was dinner, which was simple but tasty. Then he did a Q&A session where guests were allowed on stage to ask him a question 1 to 1. Then each table had an opportunity to take a group photo with him on stage. There was also a Tahitian dancer who did a solo dance. Let's see...what else...
I was surprised to learn that there was an Oh Ji Ho Fan Club. They're only a month old, but already 60 strong. The President of the Fan Club said she had a dream about singing the song "Close to You" to him so she gathered her fellow Fan Club members, and as the song "Close to You" was playing, her members each got to sit side by side with OJH and take a photo with him. It was pretty....interesting. Then they all sang Happy Birthday to him cuz his B-day was 2 weeks earlier.
OJH was really humble and gentlemanly throughout the night. Everyone I talked to after the event expressed how they loved his down to earthness as well has his willingness to comply to any request. He even sang an accapella version of a song from one of his dramas.
It was pretty amazing to see all of these ladies in their 40s, 50s, 60s going so nuts over OJH. Dicas were snapping all over the place as the ladies fought for the best posing positions. OJH came with a posse of 3 other guys and I happened to be sitting on the same table as them. The funniest moment (well, for me anyway) was when one of the ladies asked if she could have her picture taken with me. I told her that I was a nobody but she refused to believe, saying "No! I saw you on some show! You're one of the celebrities!" That was pretty damn hilarious to me.
Anyways, it was an event that all the attendess enjoyed and I'm sure all his fans love him even more now.

You are somebody especially if you were one of only 4 men at the event haha.
I can read between the lines...interesting indeed. Even I think I'm too old to go and make a fool I mean fan outta myself and I'm younger than you. I think I should never post on drama forum again because I may have doomed myself by this post lol.
"Why do birds, suddenly appear...every time...you are neeeear..."
Thanks for the report. Quite surreal. Man you should've milked your time in the spotlight. Tell them you were Gangster #3 in Lovers or something. "That fight in the hospital? Yep that was me that Lee Suh-jin kicked!" And I bet they woulda gone "oh yeah yeah yeah!" ;-)
As you said though it is pretty impressive that there are K-drama fan meetings of this size in Hawaii now.
So when you going call up your girl Chae Yeon for a return trip too? Me and Gary Sprinkle are waiting, ha ha.
Hi I feel like a criminal coming back to visit scene of crime. I'm having severe blogger's comment remorse.
While I might never ever go gaga over someone that could be my son or grandson doesn't mean it's eesang hae for other people. I'm thinking now that the fans genuinely see the young K-stars as extended family like a son since they see them on terebi every night. I apologize sincerely!
on the other hand though if Chae Yeon had a fan meet and majority of fans were 50-60 year old men asking her questions to Close To You that would be freaky, no?
