Click!

Caught a free sneak preview of the new Adam Sandler movie Click last night at Dole Cannery. I got there a little late so we ended up sitting in the 4th row which ended up not being too bad. Originally, we were in the far end of the 2nd row which really sucked but luckily convinced a high school kid who was saving 2 seats in the middle of the 4th row to give them up. Sucka!

Anyways, it was a pretty good film. But don't expect the laughfest you're shown in the trailer. All that funny stuff happens in the first half of the film. The premise for the film is that Sandler plays a busy architect who always puts his job before his family. To make his life easier, he looks to buy a universal remote control (from the "Beyond" section of a Bed, Bath, and Beyond store). He meets Morty (played by the always awesome Christopher Walken) who gives him a magic remote control. Sandler soon finds out that he can use the remote to not only control his gadgets, but his life! He then proceeds to use the remote to avoid anything humbug like fights with his wife and doing his work.

The comedy comes from when he experiments with the remote but the 2nd half of the film turns more dramatic as the consequences of his actions are explored. Sandler has recently tried to get rid of his schlubby goofball image by trying real acting in films such as Punch Drunk Love and Spanglish and I think he does a good job of balancing the 2 images in this film. He ain't no De Niro, but he's certainly decent, if not good. I'm a fan of his and will watch anything he makes, whether it be comedic or serious. I don't know, maybe there's something wrong with my medulla oblongata.

I'd recommend this film, not as a comedy, but as a dramedy that makes you look at your life and how you choose to live it. The ending was quite predictable, yet pleasant nonetheless. Also watch out for actors who showed up in his past films like Rob Schneider (almost unrecognizable this time), Sean Astin, and Henry Winkler. David Hasselhoff is also in it as the horndog boss. And since it's a Sandler movie, there are lots of 80s songs in the soundtrack as well.

And by the way, Kate Beckinsale who plays his wife is unbelievably hot.

Click gets a 7/10.
