One of the great Asian character actors, Mako, has
past away at the age of 72. He was last seen in
Memoirs of a Geisha and earned an Academy Award nomination for the film
The Sand Pebbles. He made many TV appearances in shows such as
Hawaii Five-O,
MASH, and
Magnum PI. He's also in appeared in films such as
Pearl Harbor,
Bulletproof Monk, and
The Perfect Weapon. A great actor and a sad loss.

Still remember him as the wizard in Conan the Destroyer(?).
Yeah, the wizard. Whatever happened to that "He is Cimmerean, he does not cry, so, I cry for him," guy?
Anyway, yeah, just heard this . . . was just thinking over the weekend, wonder what other films he'll be doing after someone mentioned they just saw "Geisha" on DVD and didn't appreciate what a minute part he got. Sad, man.
Totally overlooked regarding his honest, in-depth portrayal of Yamamoto in Pearl Harbor.
One o' the greats. Was my wish for the Dr. Komyoji character if Kikaida should ever become Hollywoodized.
Mako will be missed.
